Funtoo Linux: What Comes Next

The existing Funtoo Linux project has ended and the community project has been officially disbanded.

The next phase has started at kernel-seeds.org, a new home for open source projects with roots.

In June 2026, I relaunched Kernel Seeds and released Keychain 3.0.0_beta1, a complete Python 3 rewrite of the long-running SSH and GnuPG key manager. Keychain now has a new official project home under Kernel Seeds, with releases remaining on GitHub.

The work to carry Funtoo's ideas forward is active, and several well-developed technologies are preparing to surface. What comes next will fill the space Funtoo leaves behind, but as a marked evolution from what came before, built from funtoo-ng components designed to stand on their own.

I have chosen to preserve the Funtoo wiki and its key technologies as a legacy asset. The valuable work from this era remains accessible, and the effort to evolve it in its own way is already well underway.

I'm grateful for the history we've built, and I look forward to sharing what comes next.

Sincerely,
Daniel Robbins
