xdm is controlled by /etc/conf.d/xdm

xdm is often paired with other, more modern display managers. see:
- x11-misc/lightdm
- gnome-base/gdm

- x11-misc/slim
init
to start xdm immediately:
root # rc-service xdm start
to start xdm upon boot:
