Kodi (formerly known as XBMC) is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media center for playing videos, music, pictures, games, and more. It features a 10-foot user interface for use with televisions and remote controls. It allows users to play and view most videos, music, podcasts, and other digital media files from local and network storage media and the internet.

Installation

root # emerge media-tv/kodi
   Note

samba can also be used as a USE flag to build Kodi with or without net-fs/samba support.

Advanced Settings XML File

The Advanced Settings XML file for Kodi allows for changing advanced configuration options that cannot be achieved through the Kodi GUI.

Useful Advanced Settings XML file configurations include: Tweaks for low power devices, move library to MySQL for syncing, set streaming and cache optimization settings, change video library scanning and operations, personalize playback controls.

The Kodi advancedsettings.xml file should be located under ~/.kodi/userdata/. Note that advancedsettings.xml file does not exist by default, it has to be created by the user in the userdata folder.
